Our Academies

We operate our classes under the following umbrellas;

Preschool Academy

  • Children aged 2 - 5 years

  • Children attend classes independently; parents/guardians are not allowed in the room

  • Classes are based on the student's age as of April 30, 2026

  • The pricing structure is based per class

Junior Discovery Academy

  • Children in school years - Kindy, Year 1 & 2

  • Classes are based on the student's school year

  • Skills progressions are introduced

  • Each class will have a set of skills that students will be taught

  • The pricing structure is based on how many classes per week the student attends

Elementary, Intermediate, Senior & Advanced Academies

  • Children in school years 3 and above

  • Classes are based on school year and skill assessment

  • Skills classes

    • Skills classes provide our students with more class options and give both students and parents a clearer understanding of how their child is progressing in class.

    • Ballet, Jazz & Tap classes are called skills classes and run in numerical order from 1 to 9 (ballet & jazz) and alphabetical order from A to D (tap).

    • Students will be placed in classes according to the dance skills they have completed. This will be their ‘base level’ skills class. E.g. Jazz Skills 2

    • Students must complete all skills in a level before they can move on to the next skills class. E.g. All skills in Jazz Skills 1 must be complete before moving up to Jazz Skills 2.

    • However, students can work on their base level class and the level above at the same time.

    • This will allow students to progress faster through their skills list and will allow them more time to work on the harder level skills.

    • This allows students to do multiple classes of one style, giving them more class options.

    • Students enrolled in a skills class have an invitation to participate in exams. This must be committed to at the start of the dance season.

    • Exams are optional and up to the student to decide whether they want to participate.

    • Each class will have a set of skills that students will be taught.

    • Once a student has shown proficiency in a certain skill, it will be marked as complete.

    • Parents will be able to check their account in their parent portal to see their children's skills progress.

  • Why do we have skills classes?

    • The safety of our students is a high priority at TDC and one we take seriously. It is unsafe for students to learn higher level skills without achieving and understanding the basic techniques first. With a clearly outlined skills list, this will ensure that a student has all of the prior knowledge, skills and techniques complete before moving on to the next level of dance. Parents, dancers and teachers can all work in unison to help their child progress at their own pace and in a safe manner.

Discovery Plus Program

  • Children in school years 3 and above

  • Dance styles: Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop & Musical Theatre

  • Open/Non Skills Based Classes

    • These classes are not skills based and will be focused on a relaxed learning environment.

    • Dancers will learn steps and techniques in a safe manner and at an appropriate level for their ability.

    • Open classes will provide an extra class option for all students whether they are in a skills class or not.

AcroDance Program

  • Children in school years 3 and above

  • We use the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and have mandatory exam requirements for these classes.

  • All dancers must start from the Primary level in acro, no matter what previous experience (unless they have completed an Acrobatic Arts exam and received an excellent or distinction mark)
